Description of key information

In the atmosphere a half-life of 1.92 hours for 4-ADPA due to reaction with photochemically produced hydroxyl radicals (indirect photolysis) is estimated by AOPWIN v1.90 with a rate constant of 2 *10-10 cm3/(molecule*sec), considering an OH-concentration of 500,000 radicals/cm³ as a 24-h average (Bayer AG, 2002). The estimated half-life in air of 4-ADPA is much shorter than 48 hours and hence no potential for long-range transport of 4-ADPA in air is expected. Since 4 -ADPA absorbs UV-B radiation (Bayer AG, 1991; Steuhr and Marletta, 1985) and forms a light yellow solution in Krebs-Ringer biocarbonate buffer at pH 7.4 (Raza et al., 1982), it is expected that 4 -ADPA will undergo direct photolysis due to absorbance of environmental UV and blue light.
