Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

A reliable GLP-conform study (Klimisch 1) according to the OECD 203 guideline is available for the effect of the water accommodated fraction of bismuth subnitrate (Bi5O(OH)9(NO3)4) after equilibration for seven days on the mortality of zebrafish (Danio rerio) (Egeler and Kiefer, 2010). No mortalities were found in the control and the test item concentrations up to the water-accommodated fraction (WAF) at a loading rate of 100 mg Bismuth/L (137 mg test item/L). Behavioural or morphological differences in the treatments compared to the control fish were not apparent during the exposure period. The LC50 (96 h) was therefore determined to be higher than the highest tested concentration. The measured dissolved Bi concentration was in all treatments below the limit of detection (0.003 mg Bi/L).

No data are available for the short-term toxicity of bismuth to marine fish.
