The substance is manufactured and supplied as an aqueous solution. For the purposes of REACH compliance it is necessary to have a dry sample of the substance. Previous attempts to freeze dry other members of the category, namely C12-14 and C12-18 AO had proved unsuccessful, with either a high residual water content (23 %w/w in the case of C12-18 AO) or degradation over a short period of time (in the case of C12-14 AO). Due to this previous experience, it was decided not to attempt to freeze dry a sample of C14 AO and instead to use literature data and read across where necessary as described below.

The substance is a highly hygroscopic white solid with a melting point in the range of 125 -129 °C. Aliphatic amine oxides undergo thermal decomposition/Cope elimination between 110 -200 °C. The relative density of the substance is approximately 0.716 based on read across to C12 -14 AO. The vapour pressure was estimated to be 6.7E-06 Pa at 25 °C using MPBPWIN v 1.43 (modified grain method). The substance is surface active with a surface tension of 32.4 mN/m at 21 °C. The dissociation constant is 4.01 based on read across from experimental data for the C12 -14 AO. The substance is predicted to be non-explosive based on chemical structure and oxygen balance of the AO constituents and non-oxidising, based on chemical structure.

The substance is non-flammable based on read across to a test performed on C12 -14 AO. The log Pow is < 2.7. This value is considered to be conservative as it is based on the measured values for solubility in n-octanol of C12-14 AO (33.9 g/L) and literature data for the critical micelle concentration of the C14 alkyl dimethylamine oxide (2.7E-04 mol/L, equivalent to 0.0695 g/L).
