Endpoint:
toxicity to soil microorganisms
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because direct and indirect exposure of the soil compartment is unlikely

Description of key information

In accordance with column 2 of Annex IX of the REACH regulation, the study does not need to be conducted because direct and indirect exposure of the soil compartment is unlikely as considering its use as an artificial sweetener. Saccharin is used to sweeten products such as drinks, cookies, etc. And even if the test chemical is accidentally exposed to the soil compartment, there is likely to be little adsorption of chemical in soil compartment as considering its half-life, chemical is not persistent in soil medium.

Key value for chemical safety assessment
