The submission substance contains many constituents making the analytical monitoring very difficult for the purposes of environment and ecotoxicological testing.
One reliable study is available for the registered substance. The toxicity to freshwater aquatic invertebrates was studied by following to OECD TG No. 202 and OECD Guidance document No. 23 on aquatic toxicity testing of difficult substances and mixtures, under GLP. Daphnis (Daphnia magna) were exposed to Water-accommodated fraction (WAF) of the substance at loading rates of 2.0, 2.8, 3.8, 5.3, 7.2 and 10 mg/L over a test period of 48 hours (semi-static test, daily renewal). The fraction of the multi-constituent substance present in test medium was monitored daily; for this purpose, all the chromatographic peaks areas were summed as surrogate of a concentration for the multi-constituent substance. The overall measured concentrations, as total peak area, deviated more than 20% of the initial measured concentrations.
However, test data obtained with WAF Methodology apply for the multi-constituent substance according to OECD Guidance No. 23. Such WAF data are recommanded when assessing the aquatic toxicity of multi-component substance for the purposes of GHS / CLP. The endpoints were based on loading rates. The 48h-EC50 was determined to 5.184 mg/L.
