Description of key information

Ammonium hydrogensulfite is very soluble in water.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Water solubility:
2 670 g/L
at the temperature of:
10 °C

Additional information

Information from two handbooks are available (CRC handbook and the Merck Index). According to "ECHA, Guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment – Chapter R.7a: Endpoint specific guidance", handbook data are considered to be a trusted source.

Data from these two handbooks show that ammonium hydrogensulfite is very soluble in water. The solubility is given for three different temperatures:

- 718 g/L measured at 0°C,

- 2670 g/L measured at 10°C, and

- 6200 g/L measured at 60°C.

However, no pH value was given for the water solubility of ammonium hydrogensulphite.
