Several studies are available on the acute toxicity of Propan-1 -ol to aquatic invertebrates. The majority of derived E(L)C50 values are above 1000 mg/l and by thereby underlining the little hazard potential of Propan-1 -ol to aquatic organisms. The most reliable study has been performed by Kuehn et al. (1989). In this study Daphnia magna was exposed to Propan-1 -ol for 48 hours. The test was performed according to a German industrial standard guideline DIN 38412, part 11, which is similar to OECD 202, resulting in an EC50 (48h) of 3644 mg/l (nominal). Furthermore, in a static test using Gammarus pulex as test organisms, an LC50 of 1000 mg/l was determined (Slooff et. al. 1983). The latter LC50 represents the lowest acute value among all trophic levels, and has therefore been used to derive the PNECaqua.
