The test substance, 2,3 -epoxypropyl o-tolyl ether, was accessed for its toxicity to fish, Daphnia and algae in GLP, O.E.C.D. test guideline studies. In two independent fish studies the reported 96 hr LC50 was 2.8 - < 10 mg/L. The 48 hr EC50 value for Daphnia was 2.8 mg/L (measured). An O.E.C.D. 201 72 hr algae study reported a nominal IC50 value of 5.1 mg/L. Therefore, the test substance is Toxic to aquatic organisms. The EC50/LC50 value of 2.8 mg/L (measured) for two different aquatic species is the most appropriate value for derivation of aquatic PNECs.

The test substance, 2,3-epoxypropyl o-tolyl ether was reported to have an IC50 value of > 100 mg/L for activated sewage sludge in two independent O.E.C.D. test guideline 209 studies. Therefore, the test substance is not anticipated to have an adverse effect upon sewage sludge in waste-water treatment plants.
