Results and discussion

Any other information on results incl. tables

Symptoms:

At the low concentration, salivation, irregular respiration, dyspnoea, cough, lacrimation and sedation were observed. At the intermediate concentration, immediate agitation, reduced/irregular breathing, cough, sneezing, breathing through open mouth, foamy salivation, nasal discharge, rhinitis, conjunctivitis, dyspnoea and weightloss were apparent. At the high concentration, effects were comparable to those at the intermediate concentration, but were earlier in onset and more severe, Deaths also occurred in this group.

Necropsy:
low dose:
discoloration of nasal cavity, injection of trachea, lung
oedema, ecchymosis, medium dose: corneal opacity, conjunctivitis, nasal corrosion, trachea contain foamy red liquid, oedema of epiglottis, severe emphysema
high dose: as medium dose

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Executive summary:

Acute inhlation exposure of cats to concentrations PCl3 for up to 10 hours resulted in a number of signs of toxicity, which were reported to be similar to those seen with HCl.
