Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

waiver: substance is inherently biodegradable and direct and indirect exposure to terrestrial organisms is unlikely.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Measured toxicity data are not available for terrestrial organisms for o-tert-butylphenol.

In column 2 (9.4 Effects on terrestrial organisms) of Annex IX, REACH Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006, it is laid down that studies do not need to be conducted if direct and indirect exposure of the soil compartment is unlikely.

The test substance is not supposed to be applied directly to soil. Reliable biodegradation study results indicate that the substance is considered inherently biodegradable.  It can be assumed that o-tert-butylphenol will be biodegraded within the STP process and as a consequence a transfer to the soil compartment via sewage sludge is not expected. Any release to wastewater treatment plant or soil from residual o-tert-butylphenol in resin is negligible. Therefore, no tests on terrestrial organisms are provided.
