Description of key information

Aziridine is acutely harmful to aquatic invertebrates.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Two studies investigating the toxicity of aziridine to Daphnia magna are available. In a static test based on German standard DIN 38412, part 11 conducted with D. magna taken from a laboratory culture an EC50 was determined. After 24 hours 50 % of the individuals were immobile at a concentration of 43 mg/L (Bringmann and Kuehn, 1982). This result is supported by another static test system established according to German standard DIN 38412, part 11 with wild caught individuals. The determined EC50 (24 h) of 14 mg/L was in the same range (Bringmann and Kuehn, 1977).
