Description of key information

If released to water, aziridine is readily biodegradable, failing the 10-day window.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The biodegradation potential of aziridine was tested in a CO2-headspace test according to international standard ISO 14593 (comparable to OECD 310) using domestic activated sludge as inoculum. At termination of the test after 28 days of inoculation aziridine was degraded by 60 - 70 % (BASF SE, 2008). However, required degradation degree was not reached within the 10-day window, thus aziridine is readily biodegradable, failing the 10-day window criterion.
