Description of key information

High quality studies are available in the database of toxicity to aquatic plants other than algae. A lumped data set for nickel-based compounds was considered for endpoint coverage. The lowest EC10 value was 8.2 µg Ni/L for freshwater plants.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC10 or NOEC for freshwater plants:
8.2 µg/L

Additional information

Freshwater (Ni):

From the database of chronic nickel toxicity to freshwater plants, individual NOEC/L(E)C10 values reported for higher plant species. NOEC/L(E)C10 values range from6.11to 75 μg/L for Lemna minor (Gopalapillai et al., 2013; Schlekatet al., 2010) and 50 to 80 μg/L for Lemna gibba (Klaine and Knuteson, 2003) for a final range of6.11to 80 μg/L for the higher plants Lemna gibba and Lemna minor.

The following table indicates those NOEC or EC10 values of high quality that have been carried forward for the HC5-& PNEC derivation.
