Additional information

A measured pKa value of 4.1 is available for C12-14 AO and is read across to C12 -18 AO. AOs are weak bases, showing either non-ionic or cationic behaviour in aqueous solution depending on pH. In acid solution, the cationic form [R(CH3)2N+-OH] is observed while in neutral and alkaline solution the non-ionic form predominates as the hydrate [R(CH3)2NO.H2O].

Due to the low vapour pressure (1.7E-06 - 7.5E-05 Pa) and the low Henry’s law constant (4.5E-10 - 1.8E-08 Pa.m3/mol) , atmospheric exposure will be low. The measured Koc of 1525 L/kg for C12 -14 (which is read across to C12 -18 AO) indicates that the substance will adsorb to soil and to suspended solids and sediment in water.

A Mackay Level III fugacity model predicts that simultaneous release of the substance to air, soil and water compartments results in distribution to soil (83.1 %) water (16.1 %) and sediment (0.8 %).
