PBT assessment: overall result

PBT status:
the substance is not PBT / vPvB
Justification:

The PBT Assessment for glycerol diacetate (technical) is based on the criteria set out in the “Guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment, Chapter R.11: PBT Assessment” (ECHA, 2008).

Persistence

Glycerol diacetate (technical) is readily biodegradable based on one study according to OECD 306 (81 - 108.5 (O2 consumption) after 28 d). Thus, the test substance does not meet the screening criterion for persistency and it is not considered to be persistent (P) or very persistent (vP).

Bioaccumulation

Glycerol diacetate (technical) has a log Kow of -1.24 - 0.36 (KOWWIN v1.68). Thus, the test substance does not meet the screening criterion for bioaccumulation and it is not considered to be bioaccumulative (B) or very bioaccumulative (vB).

Toxicity

Long term toxicity values are available for Daphnia magna (NOEC (21d) ≥ 94 mg/L)for the read-across substance triacetin (in accordance with Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 Annex XI, 1.5) and Skeletonema costatum (NOEC (72 h): 100 mg/L), both well above the trigger value of 0.01 mg/L.Moreover, the test substance is not classified according to Directive 67/548/EEC and Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 (2ndATP). Thus, the criteria set out in Annex XIII of Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 are not met and the test substance is not considered to meet the T criterion.
