Description of key information

The inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is not anticipated when introduced in appropriate low concentrations.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The toxicity of propyl acetate to microorganisms was tested in a cell growth inhibition test with Pseudomonas putida [Bringmann & Kühn, 1977]. The toxic threshold concentration, which is comparable with the EC5 was measured to be 170 mg/L after 16 h. A respiration inhibition test with activated sludge of a predominantly domestic sewage confirms the low toxicity on microorganisms [UCC, 1987]. In this test no inhibition observed up to a concentration of 1000 mg/L.
