Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
substances / mixtures which in contact with water emit flammable gases
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the experience in production or handling shows that the substance does not react with water, e.g. the substance is manufactured with water or washed with water
Endpoint:
pyrophoric liquids
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
other:
Endpoint:
flammable solids
Data waiving:
study technically not feasible
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is a liquid
Endpoint:
flammable gases
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
supporting study
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
other: GLP status not known, non-guideline study, company data, reliable with restrictions
Qualifier:
no guideline followed
Principles of method if other than guideline:
Intertek method
GLP compliance:
not specified
Parameter:
lower explosion limit
Value:
0.9 % (not further specified)
Parameter:
upper explosion limit
Value:
8.1 % (not further specified)
Conclusions:
The lower explosion limit of Hydrocarbons, C5-C7, n-alkanes, isoalkanes, n-hexane rich is 0.9 and the upper explosion limit is 8.1 v% in air.
Executive summary:

The values provided have been confirmed by the company. They are therefore considered reliable and suitable for use for this endpoint. The lower explosion limit of Hydrocarbons, C5-C7, n-alkanes, isoalkanes, n-hexane rich is 0.9 and the upper explosion limit is 8.1 v% in air.

Description of key information

The upper and lower flammability ranges are 0.9 and 8.1 % v/v for Hydrocarbons, C5-C7, n-alkanes, isoalkanes, n-hexane rich, according to the Intertek method.

This range has been agreed by the consortium.

Additional information

In accordance with REACH Annex XI, this study is scientifically unjustified. The flamability of liquids is determined on the basis of thier flashpoint (in combination with their boiling point), their ability to emit flammable gases on contact with water and their pyrophoricity. The molecular structure of Hydrocarbons, C5-C7, n-alkanes, isoalkanes, n-hexane rich does not contain groups that indicate potential reactivity with water or pyrophoric properties and handling of the substance indicates that this is the case. The flashpoint indicates that Hydrcarbons, C5-C7, n-alkanes, isoalkanes, n-hexane rich is a category 2 - highly flammable liquid. Hydrocarbons, C5-C7, n-alkanes, isoalkanes, n-hexane rich was placed in this hazard class because it has a flashpoint of 0°C and a boiling point between 119°C and 134°C and therefore meets the criteria of Category 2 for flammability (flashpoint <23°C and boiling point >35°C).
