Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Biodegradation in water:
readily biodegradable

Additional information

Cocoa powder is 100% - 114% biodegradable after 14 days in a reliable OECD 301b study. The substance is very readily biodegradable. Cocoa powder is therefore unlikely to persist in the aquatic or terrestrial environments.

The chemical safety assessment indicates that it is not necessary to obtain further information on biodegradation via simulation tests in water, sediment or soil.
