Description of key information

The effect of tetrachlorethylene was studied on Folsomia candida (springtail), in an acute test and an reproduction test. In the acute test the 24-h EC50 was calculated to be 113 mg/kg soil.

Römbke et al. (1993) studied the effects of tetrachloroethylene on the carabid beetle (Poecilius cupreus). In the chronic study no mortality or behavioural changes were observed, although a 14% reduction in feeding rate was observed. Heimann and Härle (1993) studied the effect of tetrachlorethylene on Folsomia candida (springtail), in an acute test and an reproduction test. In the acute test the 24-h EC50 was calculated to be 113 mg/kg soil. There were problems with the reproduction test results, in particular mortality in the controls, therefore the reproduction test was regarded as invalid.
