Executive summary:

A test was carried out in accordance with UN-MTC Procedure O.3 to determine whether or not copper(II) nitrate 2.5 hydrate has oxidising properties. The mean burning rate of a 1:1 mixture (substance : cellulose) was found to be 0.47 g/s, and the mean burning rate of a 4:1 mixture (substance : cellulose) was found to be 1.01 g/s. The substance/cellulose mixtures (1:1 and 4:1) were found to exhibit a mean burning rate greater than the mean burning rate of a 1:1 mixture of calcium peroxide and cellulose and less than the mean burning rate of a 3:1 mixture of calcium peroxide and cellulose. It was concluded that the test substance has oxidizing properties when tested according to UN-MTC Procedure O.3 and meets the criteria for Packing Group II. The test substance is in the sense of the CLP-Guideline an oxidizing solid - Category 2.
