Two 24-hour tests with Daphnia magna are available for C10AS Na (CAS 142-87-0). The first non-GLP study followed a method described by Norme Francaise Homologue, 1983, NF T90-31 (Sanchez Leal 1991). The 24-hour EC50 value was 470 mg/L. Analytical check of the test concentrations was not provided. Since this study presents the most conservative 24-hour EC50 value, it was chosen as a key study. The other non-GLP study was performed following an AFNOR T.90301 (1974) method (Lundahl and Cabridenc 1978). The obtained results showed that the 24-hour EC50 value was 800 mg/L (nominal concentrations). Analytical measurements are not available. Since only limited information (24-hour tests) are available for aquatic invertebrates, in accordance to Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 Annex XI, 1.5 a read-across to other structurally related category members was conducted. Read-across data from C8AS Na (CAS 142-31-4) were used.

One GLP short-term toxicity test with Daphnia magna was performed with C8AS Na (CAS 142-31-4) according to OECD 202 guideline (Neven 1993). Daphnids were exposed under semi-static conditions to five test concentrations up to 100 mg/L (nominal concentrations in agreement with the measured ones). Based on mobility of daphnids, the 48-hour EC50 value was determined to be above 100 mg/L (nominal concentration). Moreover, three supporting 24-hour tests with Daphnia magna are available for C8AS Na (CAS 142-31-4). The non-GLP study of Richterich (2001) was performed according to OECD 202 guideline. Daphnids were exposed in a static test to fourteen different test concentrations up to the nominal concentration of 1000 mg/L. Analytical measurements are not available. The 24-hour EC50 value based on mobility was above 240 mg/L (nominal concentration). Lundahl (1978) reports a non-GLP test with Daphnia magna which was performed according to AFNOR T.90301 (1974) method. The result showed that the 24-hour EC50 value was 4350 mg/L. No analytical measurements were given. The last supporting study followed a method described by "Norme Francaise Homologue, 1983, NF T90-31" (Sanchez Leal 1991). The 24-hour test with Daphnia magna resulted in the EC50 value above 900 mg/L (nominal concentration, analytical measurements are not provided). Based on the presented results it can be concluded that the 48-hour EC50 value of C8AS Na (CAS 142-31-4) for aquatic invertebrates is above 100 mg/L.

Due to structural and property similarities with the tested category member, it can be concluded that the above results apply also to C10AS Na (CAS 142-87-0). Since the 24-hour EC50 values are in the same range as observed for C8AS Na (CAS 142-87-0), it can be expected that the 48-hour EC50 value for C10AS Na (CAS 142-87-0) will be above 100 mg/L.
