The atmospheric half life of CS2 was estimated to be between 5 and 15 days.

An atmospheric half-life due to photolysis of CS2cannot be estimated easily because of the very complicated chemistry of CS2Reaction mechanisms are pressure, oxygen and temperature dependent. However an atmospheric half life of 5 - 15 days seems to be a reasonable estimate. The main degradation products are COS and SO2.

Most older studies must be interpreted with great care as these are usually carried out at low partial oxygen pressure, which leads to different reaction mechanisms resulting in an underestimate of the actual degradation in the atmosphere under "natural" conditions.
