Description of key information

Log Kow (submission substance): not applicable
Log Kow (silanol hydrolysis product): -1.9

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The requirement to test the substance for octanol-water partition coefficient is waived because in contact with water the substance very rapidly hydrolyses to form ethylsilanetriol and acetic acid. The Log Kow of the silanol hydrolysis product has been calculated using a validated QSAR.

A partition coefficient value of -0.17 was available for acetic acid (Hansch et al 1995).
