Description of key information

Hydrolysis product: 2-ethylhexanoic acid: readily biodegradable (OECD 301E, EKO LAB, 1998)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Biodegradation in water:
readily biodegradable

Additional information

2 -Ethylhexanoyl chloride is expected to hydrolyse rapidly (t1/2 < 10 min) to form 2 -ethylhexanoic acid. Therefore data on the biodegradation of 2 -ethylhexanoic acid are presented. According to the available data, 2 -ethylhexanoic acid is readily biodegradable.

2 -Ethylhexanoic acid is readily biodegradable in a modified OECD screening test (OECD 301E; > 90 % in 28 d; EKO LAB, 1998).
