Description of key information

In a non-guideline study conducted prior to ecotoxicity GLP requirements, the LC50 of hexylene glycol to tadpoles (Rana catesbeiana) was reported to be 11800 mg/L.

Additional information

The toxicity of hexylene glycol in tadpoles (Rana catesbeiana) was assessed in a published non-guideline study that predates GLP requirements for ecotoxicity studies (Thurston et al., 1982). Significant methodological deficiencies were identified in this study including lack of reporting of the concentrations that were tested and of the number of animals that were assessed. The tadpoles were exposed to hexylene glycol for 96 hours in a flow-through freshwater exposure system. The 96-hour LC50was reported to be 11800 mg/L (Thurston et al., 1982).
