Additional information

Hexylene glycol photostability has been investigated by Magneron et al. in 2003 under different conditions (artificial and natural light). The results are the following:

- Phototransformation in air: k = (1.5 +/- 0.4) x 10 -11 cm3 molecule-1 s-1 (sensitizer: OH radical).

- Transformation products: diacetone alcohol, acetone, and peroxyacetyl nitrate.

- Estimated photochemical ozone creation potential (POCP) reported to be 47 (ethylene = 100).

- Tropospheric lifetime estimated to be 20 hours.

- Expected to be oxidised at the local or regional scale.

Otherwise based on the ready biodegradation test results which confirm that hexylene glycol is readily biodegradable, the hydrolysis test has been waived.
