Description of key information

In accordance with column 2 of REACH Annex IX, short-term toxicity to plants (required in section 9.4.3) does not need to be conducted as direct and indirect exposure of the soil compartment is unlikely. Based on the physico-chemical properties, lithium ions are not expected to be distributed into soil. Lithium ions have a very low potential to adsorb to soil (if at all). According to the available information, an input via sludge application on agricultural soil is considered to be negligible, as lithium ions do not adsorb to the sewage sludge to a significant extent.  Thus, it can be concluded, that the risk for the terrestrial compartment is low and no further information and/or testing is required.
