In general, all LC50(96h) values derived with different fish species for various test substances in the SCAE C2 -C8 category were above the limit of water solubility.

The toxicity of Isopropyl laurate to rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) was tested in semi-static conditions according to OECD 203 according to GLP. Nominal test concentrations were 62.5, 125, 250, 500 and 1000 mg/L (Jenkins 1993). There were no toxic effects observed in the species tested after an incubation period of 96 hours at the limit of water solubility, resulting in an LC50 (96 h) value of >1000 mg/L. Another observation regarded a change in pigmentation and swimming behaviour where a NOEC (96 h) of 62.5 mg/L (nominal) was determined.

The absence of negative effects on fish is underlined by a test on the marine species Scopthalmus maximus where the read-across substance Fatty acids, C8-16, 2-ethylhexyl esters (CAS 135800 -37 -2) was added as WAF, resulting in a nominal LL50 (96 h) value > 5600 mg/L (Hudson 2002).
