Description of key information

OECD Guideline 209, EU Method C11, EPA OPPTS 850.6800, GLP, key study, validity 1:
3h-EC10 = 89.6 mg/L (95%CL: 57.63 - 139.27 mg/L)
3h-EC50 > 1000 mg/L

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for microorganisms:
1 000 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for microorganisms:
89.6 mg/L

Additional information

One valid key study is available to assess the toxicity of TBEP to microorganisms. In this 3-h acute toxicity test, activated domestic sewage sludge was exposed to TBEP at nominal concentrations of 0, 10, 31, 100, 313 and 1000 mg/L (nominal concentration). 3, 5-dichlorophenol was used as reference material (positive control) at 5, 16 and 32 mg/L (nominal concentration). The study was performed according to the OECD Guideline No 209 (1984). Maximum respiration inhibition rate was observed at 1000 mg/L of substance. Thus, the 3h-EC50 value was found to be higher than 1000 mg/L. The 3h-EC10 value was calculated to be 89.6 mg/L (95%CL: 57.63 - 139.27 mg/L).
