Administrative data

Description of key information

There are no sensitisation data for trichloro(octyl)silane. However, in accordance with Column 2 of REACH Annex VII, the skin sensitisation study (required in Section 8.3) does not need to be conducted as the available information indicates that the substance meets the criteria for classification as corrosive to skin.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Skin sensitisation

Endpoint conclusion
Endpoint conclusion:
no study available
Additional information:

Trichloro(octyl)silane hydrolyses very rapidly in contact with water and moist air, releasing three moles of hydrogen chloride (HCl) for each mole of parent material. It is therefore classified as corrosive and sensitisation testing is not appropriate.

Respiratory sensitisation

Endpoint conclusion
Endpoint conclusion:
no study available

Justification for classification or non-classification

Based on the available data, trichloro(octyl)silane does not require classification for skin sensitisation according to Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008.
