Description of key information

Zinc borates are ‘sparingly soluble salts,’ particularly the anhydrous form. Hydrolysis under dilute conditions leads to zinc hydroxide (via zinc oxide) and boric acid. Zinc hydroxide solubility is extremely low under neutral and basic conditions, leading to a situation where zinc borate hydrolyzes to zinc hydroxide and boric acid more quickly than it solubilizes. Under physiological conditions and typical environmental concentrations with neutral and lower pH, zinc borate can be considered to hydrolyze to zinc hydroxide and boric acid.
