Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Information on neurological effects is available from repeated dose toxicity studies summarized elsewhere in this document. In addition, information on developmental neurotoxicity is available from a non-guideline study in rats (Grant and Samson (1982). In this study, pups were dosed directly with tertiary butyl alcohol on postnatal days 4-7 of lactation, which in contrast to the OECD guideline No 426 (developmental neurotoxicity study), where pups are exposed via lactation. Confidence in the findings of the study is reduced by the large number of deaths (possible due to dosing) and variable dosage given to the only dose group (between 600- 2690 mg/kg bw/day). Overall, this study provides no information on the potential developmental neurotoxicity of tertiary butyl alcohol.
