Description of key information

Aquatic short-term toxicity of propylparaben (CAS 94-13-3) was investigated for three trophic levels. The available data show the toxicity levels of the substance to be in the same range for fish, aquatic invertebrates and algae. An LC50 (96h) of 6.4 mg/L was determined for fish. The EC (48h) for Daphnia is 15.4 mg/L. Testing with algae revealed an ErC50 (72h) of 16 mg/L and a NOEC of 2.1 mg/L.

The long-term test with daphnia magna (OECD 211) revealed a NOEC of 0.25 mg/L. In a fish sexual development test (OECD 234) with Danio rerio the lowest NOEC found was 0.165 mg/L.
