Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The test data indicate that EMA is rapidly biodegraded and would be completely mineralized in the environment.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Biodegradation in water:
readily biodegradable

Additional information

For the biodegradability of ethyl methacrylate the following information is considered:

OECD 301D: 79.1% degradation after 21 days. Thiebaud and Moncel (1995)

EMA is readily biodegradable. This is consistent with data available on all members of the category of lower methacrylate esters showing that they are also readily biodegradable.

Based on the TGD the defaults for readily biodegradable substances the first order constants and half-life for biodegradation in surface water for EMA is as follows:

Rate constant (surface water) ksw= 0.047 d-1(at 22/25 °C)

Half-life (surface water) [DT50] = 14 d (at 22/25 °C)
