Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

No reliable long-term toxicity data are available for the toxicity of Ethyl (S)-lactate to aquatic invertebrates. However, a waiver is applied for this endpoint.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Under column 2 of Annex IX of Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 the specific rules for adaptation from column 1 are that long-term toxicity testing shall be proposed by the registrant if the chemical safety assessment according to Annex I indicates the need to investigate further the effects on aquatic invertebrates.

Testing is waived since no adverse effects of Ethyl (S)-lactate were observed in a short-term toxicity test with the freshwater crustacean Daphnia magna at concentrations up to 100 mg/L, the limit concentration in the respective OECD guidance (OECD 202). Furthermore, Ethyl (S)-lactate is readily biodegradable (see section 5.2.1) and as a consequence, no chronic exposure of aquatic invertebrates is expected.

Therefore, a long-term toxicity study in aquatic invertebrates is not provided.
