Additional information

The short-term toxicity of 1-chloro-2-methylbenzene towards fish was tested following the OECD Guideline 203 yielding a LC50 (96h; Oryzias latipes; analytically confirmed) of 7.7 mg/L (MOE Japan, 2001).

The short-term toxicity of 1 -chloro-2 -methylbenzene towards aquatic invertebrates is characterized by an EC50 (Daphnia magna; immob.; 48 h; semi-stat.; geom. mean meas.) = 0.70 mg/L (95% CI: 0.482 - 0.889) having Daphnia magna as test species (MOE Japan, 2001).

The long-term toxicity of 1 -chloro-2 -methylbenzene towards aquatic invertebrates was investigated following OECD TG 211 (1998). Daphnia magna was used as test organism yielding a 21-day NOEC of 0.313 mg/L (TWM) for reproduction as well as parental mortality (MOE Japan, 2001).

The toxicity of 1-chloro-2-methylbenzene towards aquatic algae is characterized by an ECr50(72 h; growth rate; geom. mean meas.) of 9.11 mg/L (95% confidence limit: 8.71 - 9.52), and an EC10(72 h; growth rate; geom. mean meas.) of 6.09 mg/L (95% confidence limit: 5.92 - 6.26) (MOE Japan, 2001).

The toxicity of 1 -chloro-2 -methylbenzene towards microorganisms was tested using Pseudomonas putida as test species. An EC3(16 h) of 15 mg/L was observed having the inhibition of cell multiplication inhibition as endpoint (Bringmann, 1977, 1979, 1980).
