Additional information

Experimental studies performed in 2011 as the acute toxicity to aquatic invertebrates and the respiration inhibition test revealed that the water solubility of Benzophenone is below 100 mg/L, which is in contrast to the supporting data. Thus, two experimental approaches were used to get a reliable value for the water solubility of Benzophenone.

In the first approach different concentrations of Benzophenone were weighed and dissolved in water. The water solubility was determined by visual observation. In the second approach concentrations in test vessels from the aquatic ecotoxicity test with invertebrates were checked by control analysis using HPLC-UV.

The first aproach revealed a water solubility of 25 mg/L at 20 °C. The second approach revealed a solubility due to recoveries > 80 % at 22.7 mg/L at 20 °C. The mean value of 23.9 mg/L was chosen.

According to the classification scheme, benzophenone can be considered as slightly soluble in water.
