Description of key information

A measured Koc is not available for any of the streams in this category.

It is not feasible to perform simulation tests on complex, volatile UVCBs.

As the log Kow of some streams is >3 the adsorption/desorption endpoint cannot be waived. However, ECHA's Guidance on Information Requirements and Chemical Safety Assessment R7a Endpoint Specific Guidance (2008) indicates that, before commissioning a new study, alternative sources of data (e.g. QSAR) on the adsorption/desorption potential of a chemical should be used. Soil sorption of non-ionic substances can be estimated from their log Kow. Several QSAR have been developed that calculate the Koc of non-polar hydrocarbons on the basis of their log Kow (e. g. Sabljic and Gusten, 1995). The log Kows for representative components on these streams were identified from the compositional data. The representative components are presented in Section 2.3.

The predicted log Kocs for the representative components in this category range from 1.3275 - 6.67 across both QSARs.
