Test organisms

Test organisms (species):
Daphnia magna
Details on test organisms:
Daphnids originated from a healthy stock, 2nd to 5th brood, showing no signs of stress such as mortality >20%, presence of males, ephippia or discoloured animals and there was no delay in the production of the first brood.

Study design

Test type:
static
Water media type:
freshwater
Total exposure duration:
48 h

Test conditions

Hardness:
180 mg/l as CaCO3
Test temperature:
19.7 - 20.8°C
pH:
7.8
Dissolved oxygen:
8.9 - 9.8
Nominal and measured concentrations:
Analysis of the samples taken from the filtrates prepared at 1.0 and 100 mg/l showed that measured concentrations remained fairly stable over the test period. Analyses of the filtrate prepared at 1.0 mg/l showed measured concentrations of 11.0 and 12.1 µg/l at t=0 and 48 hours. Analyses of the filtrate prepared at 100 mg/l showed measured concentrations of 17.1 and 19.6 µg/l at t=0 and 48 hours, respectively. The average measured concentrations were calculated to correspond to 12 and 18 µg/l, for the filtrates prepared at 1.0 and 100 mg/l, respectively.
Details on test conditions:
Test vessels 100 ml, all-glass
Medium Adjusted ISO medium
Number of daphnids 20 per concentration
Loading 5 per vessel containing 80 ml of test solution
Light 16 hours photoperiod daily
Feeding No feeding
Aeration No aeration of the test solutions.
Introduction of daphnids Within 1 hour after preparation of the test solutions.
