The following reliable data is available for environmental classification of titanium tetrakis(2 -ethylhexanolate):

Acute Aquatic Toxicity:

Short-term toxicity to fish:

•96-h LC50 (mortality) to Leuciscus idus melanotus (golden orfe), 17.1 mg/L based on measured concentrations (read-across from 2-ethylhexanol; Scholz 1991)

Short term toxicity to invertebrates:

•48-hour LC50 (immobilisation) to Daphnia magna, 40 mg/L based on measured concentrations (read-across from 2-ethylhexanol (Scholz 1991) and the analogue category member titanium tetra(octanolate), branched and linear; OECD 202 Tobor-Kapłon 2013)

Toxicity to algae:

•72h-NOEC (growth rate) to Scenedesmus subspicatus, 2 mg /l based on measured concentrations (read-across from 2-ethylhexanol (Scholz 1991) and the analogue category member titanium tetra(octanolate), branched and linear; OECD 201 Tobor-Kapłon 2013)

Conclusion: No acute aquatic toxicity as the lowest short-term toxicity value of 16.6 mg/l is greater than 1 mg/l.

Abiotic degradation (hydrolysis): Hydrolytically unstable, Half-life less than 10 minutes (OECD 111)

Main organic decomposition product (2-ethylhexanol) is readily biodegradable (> 79 % to 100 % at 14-d MITI-test, NITE 2002) and possess relatively low aquatic toxicity.

Conclusion: rapidly degradable.

Bioaccumulation: Log Kow for the main degradation product (2-ethylhexanol) is 2.9 (OECD 117). Not possible to determine for the target substance because of rapid hydrolysis.

Conclusion: No chronic aquatic toxicity as the lowest sub-chronic toxicity value of 2 mg/l (NOEC algae) is greater than 1 mg/l, substance is rapidly degradable, and the degradation products have low potential for bioconcentration and bioaccumulation.
