Resorcinol inhibited both iodide uptake and iodide organification, and was reported to be 20 times more potent than the anti-thyroid drug 6-propylthiouracil (PTU). Inhibition was statistically significant (p0.05) at a resorcinol concentration of 0.5 µM, with iodide uptake at 78.5% of control, and iodide organification at 2.7% of control.
