Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The lowest valid acute test results derived from aquatic toxicity testing with fish, invertebrates and algae are as follows:

Cyprinus carpio (fish): 96 h-LC50= 63 mg/l

Daphnia magna: 48 h-EC50= 59 mg/l

Scenedesmus subspicatus: 72 h-ErC50= 172 mg/l

The substance was not classified as dangerous according to Directive 67/548/EWG due to low acute aquatic toxicity and ready biodegradability. Dodecane-12 -lactam is readily biodegradable with more than 60% degradation within the 10 day-window. Furthermore the substance showed no signs of bioaccumulation in a flow-through test with fish.

In view of this the testing of longterm toxicity to aquatic organisms does not seem to be necessary, since long term effects might only occur if the substance is not readily biodegradable and/or bioaccumulative.

Due to the low exposure in sewage treatment plant and the ready biodegradability, the toxicity to microorganisms can be excluded.
