Description of key information

non flammable
no pyrophoricity
no flammability on contact with water

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
non flammable

Additional information

According to EC 1907/2006 Annex XI only the flammability of liquids is deduced from the flash point. For this solid substance a flash point was determined because the substance melts at relatively low temperatures. Therefore the flammability in this case could be deduced from the flash point.

Flash point: 213 °C (closed cup)

Based on flash point and boiling point the substance tetradecanoic acid, tetradecyl ester (CAS 3234-85-3) is non flammable.

Based on experience in handling and use and the chemical structure pyrophoricity and flammability on contact with water are not to be expected.

Justification for classification or non-classification

The available data on flammability of the test substance do not meet the criteria for classification according to Regulation (EC) 1272/2008 and are therefore conclusive but not sufficient for classification:

Based on flash point and boiling point the substance is a non flammable solid.

Based on the chemical structure and experience in handling and use, pyrophoricity and flammability on contact with water are not expected.
