In a study conducted according to OECD guideline 202 (CIBA-Geigy, 1996) the EC50 based on mobility of the test animals after 48 hours was higher than the saturation concentration (WAF, the highest applied test concentration was an undiluted filtrate with a nominal loading rate of 100 mg/L).

Constituents

Based on the results on the whole substance which was tested with water accomodated fractions, it can be expected that the constituents do not exhibit adverse effects to Daphnia as well. The substance was tested up to 100mg/L loading. As the constituents are of poor water solubility there is no adverse effects to be expected.

Structure A (CAS 597 -82 -0)

In a supporting study (RCC, 2002) the 48–hr-acute toxicity of O,O,O- triphenyl thiophosphate, a major constituent of the test substance, to Daphnia magna was studied under static conditions. Daphnids were exposed to control and saturation concentration (undiluted filtrate of the test item with a nominal loading rate of 100mg/L) for 48 hr.  Mortality/immobilization and sublethal effects were observed daily.  The 48–hr EC50 was determined to be higher than saturation concentration. No effects were observed at saturation concentration (undiluted filtrate of the test item with a nominal loading rate of 100mg/L). It can be concluded that the test substances causes no toxic effects in the range of solubility.   

Overall, it can be concluded that the results indicate that the uvcb substance is not acutely toxic to Daphnia magna in the range of solubility.
