Adsorption / desorption

The adsorption coefficient (Koc) of the test material was determined using the HPLC screening method in accordance with OECD Guideline 121 (Garcia-Sanchez, 2011). The column temperature of the HPLC system was 40 °C. The reference Koc-values in the OECD guideline presumably refer to 25 °C. Even though the column temperature was 40 °C, this temperature has no influence on the result of the determination. Therefore the Koc -value of the test item determined within this study also refers to 25 °C. As result a logKoc greater than 5 is reported, the extrapolated value is 6.4 (corresponding to a Koc value of 2,511,886).

Furthermore, the soil adsorption potential for bis(2,6-diisopropylphenyl)carbodiimide was predicted by the computer program KOCWIN v2.00 (EPIWIN software) by US-EPA (Chemservice S.A., 2011). A Koc value of 17,320,000 L/kg was estimated by the Salbjic molecular connectivity (MCI) method, which is taken more seriously into account, due to the fact that it includes improved correction factors. The traditional method gives a value of 36,960,000 L/kg.

Henry´s Law constant

This information is not mandatory for a registration under REACH Regulation (EC) 1907/2006 in a tonnage band of 100 - 1000 tons/year. However, the HLC is important to derivate the PNECs for the ecotoxicology chapter. It can be predicted with the help of HENRYWIN v3.20 (EPIWIN software) by US-EPA (Chemservice S.A., 2011). A constant of 2.93 E+001 Pa*m³/mol was predicted at 25 °C for the substance bis-(2,6-diisopropylphenyl)carbodiimide.

According to REACH Regulation 1907/2006 this information is not mandatory for a registration of a chemical at a tonnage band of 100 - 1000 tons/year.
