Description of key information

Significant accumulation in organisms is not to be expected.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Ethyl chloroformate has an estimated low log Kow of 0.63. Therefore, bioaccumulation is not to be expected. Moreover, ethyl chloroformate is rapidly hydrolysed (half-life = 20 min, pH 7, 25 °C) to ethanol, HCl and CO2. The hydrolysis product ethanol has also no significant potential for bioaccumulation (estimated BCF = 3.2) (OECD, 2005).
