Conclusions:
The 72-h ErC50 was determined to be 81 mg/L, the 72-h ErC10 was 45 mg/L and the 72-h NOEC was 10 mg/L (OXEA, 2010).
Executive summary:

The growth inhibiting effect of 3,5,5 -trimethylhexanoic acid was investigated on the green alga Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata in a 72 -h study according to OECD TG 201. The following nominal concentrations were set up: 0, 1.0, 3.2, 10, 32 and 100 mg/L. The test substance concentrations were analytically verified on days 0 and 3. The recovery rates were between 91 and 103%, therefore the results are based on nominal concentrations. The physico-chemical parameters pH, temperature and light intensity were within the recommended ranges. The validity criteria of OECD TG 201 (March 2006) were fulfilled. Based on nominal concentrations (analytically confirmed), the 72 -h EbC50 was 51 mg/L and the ErC50 was 81 mg/L. The 72-h ErC10 was 45 mg/L and the NOEC was 10 mg/L for growth rate and yield. Based on the EC50 3,5,5 -trimethylhexanoic acid is acutely harmful to algae.
