Additional information

An acute test on fish (96-h LC50 6.8 mg/L) and Daphnia (96-h LC50 7.1 mg/L) and a chronic test on algae (3-d NOEC 1.25 mg/L) were performed to examine the acute aquatic toxicity of LAS-IPA. The toxicity of LAS-IPA to aquatic organisms may be described by the toxicity of LAS-Na and IPA according to the read-across statement in which full dissociation of the LAS-IPA in water is supported. Sufficient data are available for LAS-Na (few for IPA) which should provide adequate short-term and long-term aquatic toxicity data (see read-across statement).

For LAS-Na a large number of aquatic toxicity studies are available. The EC50s and NOECs are in the same order of magnitude as those found for LAS-IPA but slightly lower. The EC50s and NOECs found in toxicity tests with IPA are higher. Therefore, a precautionary approach is taken for the derivation of the PNECaqua. The large body of long-term ecotoxicity data for LAS-Na results in a conservative estimate of the PNECaqua for the read-across analogue LAS-IPA.

On the basis of the available tests LAS-IPA is classified as Aquatic Chronic Toxicity, Category 3.
