Description of key information

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Skin sensitisation

Endpoint conclusion
Endpoint conclusion:
no adverse effect observed (not sensitising)
Additional information:

A total of 42 guinea pig sensitisaton studies were identified. In laboratory animals, neither gasoline nor naphtha blending streams induced dermal sensitization in Buehler tests in guinea pigs. In the human literature, there is no evidence of allergic contact dermatitis to either gasoline or naphtha blending streams.

Migrated from Short description of key information:

Skin sensitization – Not sensitizing in guinea pig (OECD TG 406).

Justification for selection of skin sensitisation endpoint:

One of 42 studies undertaken on low boiling point naphthas which showed similar results.

Respiratory sensitisation

Endpoint conclusion
Endpoint conclusion:
no study available
Additional information:

Forty two animal sensitisation studies were identified which did not show evidence of dermal sensitisation.

Migrated from Short description of key information:

Results from a large number of guinea pig sensitisation studies do not show evidence of skin sensitisation,

Justification for classification or non-classification

The animal studies were conducted under regulatory guidelines and in accordance with good laboratory practice recommendations.  Thus, the data can be used without restriction for regulatory purposes and do not support classification as a sensitiser according to EU CLP Regulation (EC No. 1272/2008). There is no need to conduct additional animal testing for these endpoints.
