Additional information

Under environmental conditions the substance will almost be completely polymerized into polyureas, since HDI trimer forms oligo- and polymers in contact with water. Significant concentrations of unreacted 'Hexamethylene diisocyanate, oligomerisation product (biuret type)' would not be expected to occur in moist soil.

The water-insoluble polyureas considered to be essentially not bioavailable. Due to the large molecular size of polyureas, cellular uptake is unlikely. For this reason toxic effects on organisms are unlikely. Studies on the aquatic environment, in which no effects occurred to organisms of all three trophic levels, support this conclusion. For this reason tests on terrestrial organisms are not proposed.
